The GLD is a summative assessment at the end of the Reception year (the final year of the EYFS) that indicates whether a child has achieved the expected level of development across key areas. Specifically, a child is considered to have reached a GLD if they achieve the expected level in the early learning goals (ELGs) within the three prime areas of learning (Personal, Social and Emotional Development; Physical Development; and Communication and Language) and the two specific areas of learning (Literacy and Mathematics).
